Let's start inside this week. New mouldings are in on the first floor. No more crumbling plaster as your sleeve brushes the doorway as you enter.

From inside the living room. Putting moulding back up on the doors was one of the most effective things we've done so far towards making the house seem livable. You can see the door to the kitchen with the space for the future transom.

A straight shot of the kitchen door. The space above the standard door will be framed out and a window will be installed. The decorative idea here is to use sandwiched marbles between two sheets of plexiglas. Michelle already bought the marbles.

The kitchen walls are ready for a countertop. Lights have been installed in the cabinet to the left. Which reminds me I should get a picture with those lights on. Check back. I'll do that.

Bought a used refrigerator from a friend. His mother-in-law was having a house sale, so we got it for a steal. It's barely been used and is like-new. A big help having the new pickup to get this thing home, since you have to transport refrigerators standing upright.

One of the last walls to go in. We've gotta finish the final bits of framing for the bedroom closet so the electricians can finally get things done. Wonder why the frame is laying on the floor rather than on the wall? Our prybar has been misplaced. We've lost just about every screwdriver we brought into the house. One of our hammers disappeared for a short while, and now the prybar is gone. In every case, we're pretty sure a workman has picked the tools up mistakenly. If you plan on doing a project like this - make certain you mark your tools well. They'll still walk away on you, but at least you'll limit the loss.

Out back. What a complete difference the porch makes.
|
|
The porch was completed in just under two weeks. The contracting did an excellent job of keeping schedule. Their work, as well, is top notch.

Painting is nearly done. We're just waiting on the front door finish carpentry. Recalling last week's gallery, we found tons of rot in the front door frame and had to get that repaired.
|
|
We had the same contractors who did the back porch work on the front door. The lentil has been replaced, the bricks repaired, and the wall is sturdy once more. They're finishing the carpentry today, so it should be completed this afternoon. Regardless, you've gotta love that red door.
