Dad. Cleaning. Whoa.
The front hallway. Demolition continues - You'll notice the baseboards have been removed, lots more wallpaper has been scraped. The interesting thing here is that the baseboards (and many of the floorboards) are full-length. There's no joining several 8ft sections here. They ran one continuous 20ft section of board where they needed it.
Removing the baseboards uncovered many flaws in the plaster, like this one in the hallway.
One of the nice things about old houses is the quality of materials that they're made with. You can see that the wall is actually in very good shape here - despite being covered with wet, moldy vinyl for the past fifty years.
We are trying to use all original lumber where possible to reconstruct walls. This is a partition wall between the hall closet and bathroom.
The last shot of the bathroom floor before we ripped it up. Spencer's just interested in finding old wood scraps.
Enviro-lady scrapes more wallpaper than you can shake a stick at.
The master bedroom, or shall I say, workroom.
Respiratory mask, eye protection, Bob Villa would be proud.
Whoa those stairs are steep. Those are the hallway baseboards lying at the bottom of the steps.
Check out the original wallpaper detail. It was actually a rather intricate colorful floral pattern.
The basement: Fluffed up and ready to live in. Those are containers full of coal from the basement.
The basement: The heater is actually rather new - only about five years old. We're going to keep that.
The basement: The old coal bin is actually quite clean. The walls have been plastered and sealed all around.
From the kitchen back out front. Wallpaper's been stripped, trim removed. This doorway is going to be moved to the left about one door width.
From the living room side: the left door will be moved flush with the corner in the center of the photo. The right door is going to be closed up.
Looks like they found the body.
Awwwww.
The floor, partially removed in the bathroom. We will refloor this with plywood and tile. The floorboards from this room are going to be used to patch damage in other areas of the house.
120 years of dirt and filth, conquered by the wet-vac.
